We recently received the following e-mail from one of our members:
'On a recent holiday to Greece, we needed to call out the doctor for our baby daughter and she prescribed medication. This cost us quite a lot and we are currently trying to claim some money back on the insurance. We tried to use our European Health Insurance Card but the Doctor wouldn't accept. Do you know why? Look forward to hearing from you.'What many people don't know is that in many countries the European Health Insurance Card does not cover you for everything you would normally get free on the NHS, which is why travellers are still advised to take out comprehensive travel insurance. You should also check with your insurance company regarding your excess- many companies (but not all) will waive the excess if you have used one whilst abroad. For more information visit the
EHIC websiteWhen booking your travel insurance remember to tell them about any pre-existing conditions, including if you're pregnant and if you're planning any water or skiing activities. If you are planning to get away soon, some travel insurance companies worth checking out are:
Columbus and
American ExpressWishing you happy and safe travels,
The HWB Team.
