Fact is I’m a warm weather kinda girl…. Give me sunshine any time and no matter what you’ll get a smile. So on Monday the Siberian snow was a major shock to the system. Of course, the nursery was shut so I was left with two very excited little ones who had been watching the snow falling from six thirty in the morning. But having accepted that no work was going get done I decided to be brave and head outside. Of course the kids absolutely loved it. My eldest (aged four) having lost the plot slightly delighted in making snow angels and rolling down the modest hill of our local park. My constant pleas for her to get up were to no avail and my youngest (aged two) was thrilled by our snowman. Finally, once their little hands were frozen and they were totally shattered they agreed to come inside for a cup of cocoa that grandma had made.
So despite the fact that no work got done, we had a great family day. Cousins that lived nearby joined us as even my husband managed to slip away from his e-mails for a short time to show us how to throw a mean snowball. It was a great experience which we all loved. But looking back I realised two things. Firstly, how poorly my kids were protected from the snow and wind. Despite winter coats, gloves, scarves and hats, none of these were waterproof and they weren’t clad in waterproof ski pants. Although they loved it totally, I’d have been much happier had they been better dressed for the occasion. With this in mind I’ve been taking a look at the range at
born2becool, who have a great selection of winter clothing for kids that includes stylish ski clothing. Who knows exactly what the weather will bring in the coming months, but I’d like to think that I’m going to better prepared next time, (including me – I don’t even own a pair of wellies!)
My second thought is that perhaps we give a skiing holiday with the kids a go sooner than I had planned as from aged four they can go to ski school. The sheer delight that they felt with our fall in London gave me much food for thought and I am certain they’ll love the magnificent Alpine snow. There are a number of great companies that are geared to families with little kids and you can find out more about skiing with a little one on our website
here. For those looking for a skiing holiday this year, check out Ski Famille's special offer in March, where they are offering 15% reductions on all but two of their chalets for the week of 21st March.
I know the kids are hoping for more snow this weekend. Whatever happens, I wish you and you families many special days like the one I just had on Monday.
