To stroll or not to stroll…As every parent knows,
travelling with a little one in tow takes lots of time and careful planning and you need the perfect travel companion to cart your little one around while you are sight-seeing and a
stroller isn’t the only option for taking your little one around while you are on holiday-especially on a site seeing trip.
Sometimes a handy
stroller just doesn’t cut it- if you visiting attractions with lots of stairs and climbing on a
city break (for example, Rome’s Coliseum) or if you are planning a
outdoor , hiking or on the
beach, a stroller sometimes can’t help but sink into the sand! If a city break holiday where lots of travel on public transport is involved- like an underground- is your thing, you are bound to run into lots of escalators or stairs which can be very tricky with a stroller in tow.
Sometimes travelling with a stroller can equal spending lots of time hunting for elevators , lifts and pavements than you do actually enjoying your travel and recreation.
But do not fret; there are some fabulous and fun alternatives to a stroller for your holiday.
The SlingThe sling is one of the best baby-friendly inventions in the world! This handy contraption makes a great alternative to a stroller, particularly if you travelling with a newborn or a small baby. The sling is a great way to be extra close to your baby and keeps your hands free. Before you go this route for your holiday, get used to the sling by practicing at home first, so that you and baby get comfortable and used to it.
The Front Baby CarrierA front baby carrier is another great way and alternative to move around and to keep your hands free with a baby in tow. As your little one gets older, a great advantage is that baby can be forward facing so they can see what's going on and take everything in while on your travels.
The Backpack Carrier for BabyIf you have a large baby or a younger toddler, a backpack carrier is a great option for travelling. This alternative lets your little one see and enjoy its surroundings, allows your hands to be free and the backpack is handy for keeping essential items you need for your day out. Just remember to check the Backpack Carrier’s weight limits closely and remember that those limits include both child and anything packed into the backpack.
The Toddler TetherA fabulous alternative to a stroller and a great option for little walkers is a Toddler Tether. These great ‘contraptions’ combine the convenience of stroller-free movement (no pushing for mum and dad!) but still retains security for your little one and they will love exploring on their ‘own’- safely of course!
There are some fun new Toddler Tether options now available- there are adorable animal backpacks the toddler wears that are attached by tether to the parent- cute and it’s handy for storing your little one’s odds and ends.
The only downside to this option is what to do if your toddler gets tired during your walk and if you do not have an alternative with you, you will be carrying your toddler.
Whatever option you decided, make sure it’s right for you and your little one. A comfortable baby is a happy baby and that equals a wonderful holiday for all.
Happy travels...
